THE TRUTH ABOUT SATIN (& OTHER FABRIC TERMS)

There’s a lot of confusion around fabric names, and many brands rely on that to make things sound more luxurious than they are.

Take satin, for example. Most of us hear “satin” and picture something glossy, slinky, special. But satin isn’t a fibre, it’s a weave. That smooth, shiny texture can be made from silk, polyester, acetate, wool… you name it.

Which means that polyester satin and silk satin might look similar at first glance — but wear, feel, and age completely differently.

LOOK FOR TWO WORDS

When you’re shopping, what you really need are two pieces of information:
→ the texture (e.g. satin, chiffon, corduroy)
→ the fibre (e.g. silk, polyester, viscose, cotton)

Without both, you’re not getting the full picture.
And unfortunately, a lot of product descriptions don’t make that clear on purpose.

FIBRES AND FINISHES: HELP IS HERE!

I've made you a visual guide to the most common fabric finishes and fibres, so you know exactly what to look for, and what questions to ask, next time you're browsing.

I hope it helps you shop with more clarity and confidence.

The more we all understand about fabric, the harder it is for brands to rely on vague or misleading descriptions.
